CAH- chiiiiiingggg

I built a toy slot machine that I had bought at the Goodwill.  It's secret talent is that I can drop a coin through the coin hole at the top and it will come shooting out into the bottom!  If I had more time I would've tried to make the arm go up and down as well....ohh welll

STOP - mooootiiiioooonnn

This is the beginning of my video to the song Nostrand by Ratatat.  There are a couple missing sections because I wanted to get as much done before I reshot clips that I was thinking of adding in.  The song has a distinct beginning and end, and really builds up which is what I love about it.  Sorry for the blank spots but keep watching cause the end is my favorite part of the song.

Human vs. Water

I used this photographic sequence to show the interaction between humans and water.  I also wanted to convey the idea that all water is the same and comes from or goes to the same place.

Virginia in Virginia

I really liked learning about Sally Mann during our in-class presentations.  I thought it was really funny how she lived and took all of her photos in the state of Virginia, and then named one of her daughters Virginia.  One of the first things people always ask me when I introduce myself is if I was born, or if I have ever lived, in Virginia.  My initial thought is Of course not! Why would my parents do that.....
So this was the first I had ever heard of a Virginia, actually living in VA...and it just struck me because I am asked that question by almost everyone I know.

This photo is called Holding Virginia, taken in Virginia.

Little Man, Big World

These two images show one of my ideas for the new project.  I'm not sure if it's acutually what I want to carry through with but I find the concept sort of humorous so I tried experimenting with it.

Wolf Like Me

I chose to do a song by TV on the Radio called "Wolf Like Me."

The song feels really chaotic and always makes me want to dance.  I thought I could convey this chaos through shots that I took of blurred lights at night on campus.

I also took a couple shots of the full moon because the song talks about the transformation that he makes when the full moon is out.

Ultimately, I think I'm going to use the idea of squiggly lights but created on illustrator instead of the digital camera.  Even though I'm not going to use any of my images, shooting them definitely helped me formulate my ideas.

Almost Numba 1

This was my runner up for the analog project.  I really liked working in black and white and playing around with repetition.  I made multiple copies of a photo of hands that I found in the library, and then ripped, stapled and painted different copies.  I overlayed them on a photo I took of smoke going through the silohuettes of skinny trees.  Lastly, I added a faint layer of lace over the entire image.

Just Ours

About a year ago me and my dad discovered an abandoned factory on the Hudson River.  It was completely falling apart and totally gave us the creeps.  Entranced in our secret find, I revisited the building many times over the next few months.  I brought friends there with me so that I could take pictures of them exploring this scary site.  Each visit I'd try to "up" the excitement level by going to a new room or a new floor.  It has truly gotten better and better each time I go back, and no one else will ever be able to find it.

NEXT Day

Me and Alysia went on a car ride one day and found this huge lake off some back roads near my house.  We hiked through the woods and slipped into the freezing water. I love her silhouette here because it totally describes our senior year of high school when me and my friends would dance whenever and wherever.

I really like this artist and a lot of his work has a vintage and worn feeling to it.

Numero 3

I took this photo when I spent the summer in Hungary a few years ago.  This man was my neighbor who spoke no English, and sang Hungarian children's songs to me and my friends.

Day 2

I like how my chin is aligned with the very edge of the light.  The linearity of the wall contrasts the organic shape of my chin and neck.
